It might be speculation, but multiple sources are reporting that Doctor Who has been cancelled following the worse ratings ever for the franchise. Backlash from fans, a complete collapse of viewer numbers, and an increasingly hostile media were cited facts that have added some meat to the bone of the speculation. Let's be honest here, if you take out hate watchers, reviewers, and Youtubers the ratings would even be worse. So what do we know?

A few months ago it was reported that Bad Wolf were trying to rent out space at their Welsh studio, space that had been previously ear marked for future seasons of Doctor Who. Disney, for their part, had only ever agreed to two seasons and reports now surfacing claiming that agreeement was tied up with the House of Mouse wanting to acquire kids favourite Bluey. Clearly the corporation have done their two year requirement and with the retreat from DEI are actually looking at how shows are doing rather than just pumping out left wing cringe. And finally it is being reported widely in the mainstream media that Doctor Who lead Ncuti Gatwa has quit "amid woeful rating and fans' fury at woke storylines". Actually jettisoning Gatwa and Davis would be a good start to resurrecting the franchise, but the feeling is it is way too late for the show.

Naturally the sheltered workshop that is the BBC hasn't commented, but they equally are not swinging in to save the show. So unless the show show can find another backer in the commercial world it is readily believable that the show is done and dusted.

ScaryMinds view is we are happy for the show to be canned, it has dropped in quality over the last four or so years and with the ratings in the tiolet it is time to shelve the franchise and then bring it back better and stronger in the future. Yes we have a whole section dedicated to the show, but hey plenty of Classic Who to keep that rolling for some years to come. Only question now is who will be the new saviour of the franchise, and can it come back after the damage and complete disaster it has become over the last few years?
