Amber Midthunder waiting by her phone for Prey sequel callup

It's been three years since Prey, the latest entry in the Predator franchise, dropped on D+ Downunder and we are still waiting on the promised sequel, you know the one everyone was apparently hot under the collar about. Director Dan Trachtenberg certainly hasn't been letting the moss grow around his feet with two addition Predator movies slated for release this year. Star of Prey Amber Midthunder still claims to not know whether a sequel is coming or not, clearly the girl isn't skilled at reading the room. Let's break it down.

Prey was consider both a commercial and critical success, without hours of the movie dropping, which as we all know is code for the shrills are trying to set the agenda. Commercially its hard to know, for sure the movie topped D+ ratings for the week it was released in, but then immediately disappear into oblivion the following week, which doesn't spell hit in any sort of fashion. In fact the movie didn't appear in any charts for years top viewed on any of the streaming charts, hence we can consider it wasn't as successful as the shrills are claiming. Equally there was little to no cinema release, the movie would have bombed, and as yet Downunder there is no disc action. This doesn't spell success folks, this spells disappointment. Similarly the shrill critics were out in force first week, then more believable critics started pointing out the movie's flaws, and pretty much were talking a meh movie taken on critical reaction. We can see a similar thing with Snow White currently, the shrills talking it up, the reality spelling disaster. Any successful streaming or otherwise movie is going to get a sequel almost immediately, law of the cinematic jungle people, so grain of salt time.

The House of Mouse have confirmed Trachtenberg's Predator: Badlands is getting a full theatrical release in November this year, so clearly the company believes there is hay to be made, though given their recent track record. I'm remaining quiet on this one, though I will say Girl Bossing sounds like it might make a complete shambles of the next Predator movie.

Prior to November Disney via 20th Century Studios will be releasing another Trachtenberg Predator movie which is rumoured to be an animated anthology. Perhaps Midthunder's Naru is getting a segment in this anthology, who knows.

20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell can tell us that even though Prey was a success Trachtenberg did not want to make a sequel, and had other ideas for a new Predator movie. Reading between the lines, no Prey wasn't as successful as people hoped, and Trachtenberg has no intention of making a sequel. If Prey was successful someone else would have been found to direct a sequel. Anyone else getting tired of Corporate double speak?
