Nosferatu still delivering through weekend three, with some competition

On weekend three of the movie's release Nosferatu dropped one position to 8th on the chart, on the back of a -49% contraction. Not bad for a horror flick in the later weeks of release. The movie made an additional $663k bringing total gross to a mouth water $6.6 million. Clearly something post $7 million is on the cards for the movie's future, which is one hell of a result and underlines why January should not be avoided by horror distributors in the future.

Interestingly the second major horror movie of the year dropped over the weekend with Universal Pictures Wolf Man trying to entice some bums onto cinema seats. You would expect some support for this one Downunder considering Aussie Leigh Whannell directed and wrote the remake of a classic horror tale. Unfortunately the results over the weekend didn't match expectations. This shaggy dog story opened in ninth spot with a decent number of screens, 272 which only saw a per screen average of $2,158. Total gross was $587k for weekend one, which while not a complete disaster doesn't bode well for the future income of Wolf Man.

Back to Nosferatu, total world wide gross now stands at $157 million with a number of markets yet to open. Notable the international percentage is increasing, still behind North American domestic, but heading in the right direction. $200 million is still on the table but we really need to start seeing some more solid results from the various international markets. Still Nosferatu has passed a lot of the wannabe horror titles of previous years, and still has the legs to head further up the all time table.

Well get back to you with a full wrap on the blood sucker epic when the cinema run is over Downunder.
